How To Jump-Start a Car in 10 Simple Steps

When you’re stranded in Brewton because your vehicle won’t start, it can be easy to become worried and panicked. Fortunately, jump-starting your vehicle isn’t as complicated as it seems, and all you really need is a set of jumper cables and a friend with a working vehicle. With that in mind, here’s how to properly jump-start a car in 10 simple steps:

  1. Park the working vehicle across from your ride.
  2. Turn the working vehicle off and engage the parking brake on both vehicles.
  3. Release the hood of both vehicles and locate the battery.
  4. Take note of the positive and negative terminals on each vehicle’s battery.
  5. Using the red clamp on your jumper cable, connect it to the vehicle with the dead battery’s positive terminal.
  6. Keeping all the clamps apart, connect the red clamp to the positive terminal on the working vehicle’s battery.
  7. Now, connect the black clamp to the negative terminal of the vehicle with the working battery.
  8. The final black clamp should be attached to an unpainted metal surface of the vehicle with the dead battery’s frame to ground it.
  9. Start the vehicle with the working battery and wait a couple of minutes before starting the vehicle with the dead battery.
  10. The vehicle with the dead battery should start right up!

Keep in mind that when you start the vehicle with the dead battery, let it run for several minutes to allow the battery to charge. If the vehicle starts up, remove the battery cables in the reverse order that you put them on.
