Chevrolet Silverado EV

Have soaring prices got you considering buying an electric vehicle such as theChevy Bolt EV, like a lot of Evergreen drivers have done? Then you might be wondering how to prepare your home for an electric vehicle. Charging batteries with an electric charging station may be one of the things you’re considering. Is an electric vehicle home charger worth the cost? Keep reading for the answers.

Do You Really Need an Electric Vehicle Home Charger?

It’s true that you can charge from home simply using the cord that came with your electric vehicle. Charging batteries using this method, however, is much slower than using an electric vehicle home charger. On the other hand, units like that have to be purchased separately and professionally installed. Fortunately, Chevrolet will cover standard installation of Level 2 charging outlet for eligible customers who purchase or lease a 2022Bolt EUV or Bolt EV. Here’s how to determine if you need an electric vehicle charging station:

  • Public charging – You just run short errands in a city with lots of public electric vehicle charging stations. We should see more and more of these stations pop up in the Brewton area as the years go by.
  • Level 1 home charging – You drive less than 50 miles a day in your electric vehicle. Charging batteries this way can often take overnight or longer. This method only uses the cord that came with the vehicle.
  • Level 2 home charging – You drive more than 50 miles a day or need to charge the car faster than overnight. This method requires an electric vehicle home charger.
