Nothing says “American muscle car” like the Chevy Corvette. The distinctive low profile, sleek lines, fantastic handling, and rumble of the powerful engine all favor luxury sports car lovers who enjoy the open road and looking great while cruising Evergreen and Brewton roads.
Take a look at our guide to the Corvette models available, from the classics to the present day.
The first generation of Corvettes started in 1953 and ran through 1962. These were solidly built vehicles with rugged axles before independent suspension in the C2 models. These cars had curved lines, but were a bit boxy and clunky compared to the next generation.
The second generation is, perhaps, some of the best-known and most sought-after Chevy Corvettes in the history of the brand. This generation included the first Stingray in 1963 as well as the sleek lines of the hood that continue to the present day. The peaked nose and short tail became the signature look of Corvettes moving forward. This generation lasted until 1967. Each car had a massive V8 engine.
The most wide-ranging generation, the C3, was from 1968 to 1982. Curves on the hood became more pronounced, and sleek “gills” on the sides of the Corvette. These models also featured flip-up headlights for better aerodynamics during daylight driving.
The fourth generation spanned 1983 to 1996, and it saw the return of the convertible, which had taken a hiatus for several years. Models were lightweight, with some components made of fiberglass, and electronic dashboards were standard using LCDs as numerals rather than dials.
Fifth-generation Chevy Corvettes were produced from 1997 to 2004. They were notable for hoods that had fewer curves, but more efficient engines led to better gas mileage of 18 mpg in the city, a new high watermark for the brand at the time.
As engine technology advanced, so did the Chevy Corvette with the C6 generation from 2005 to 2013. For the first time, engine capacities grew to a whopping 7.0L, and the 6.2L V8 supercharged engine generated even more speed. Despite the larger engines, the Z06 with the 7.0L displacement was the lightest Corvette made to that point.
From 2014 to 2019, Chevy Corvettes turned into a high-tech powerhouse, and the Stingray was back for the first time since the mid-1970s!
Welcome to the current generation, which started in February 2020. Look for one of these beauties on our lot at some point, with the gorgeous and speedy Z06, capable of reaching speeds of over 200 mph. Starting in 2024, you’ll also be able to purchase the first-ever Chevy Corvette E-Ray, a hybrid, that will be the fastest Corvette ever and the first model with AWD instead of RWD. The 0-60 time for the E-Ray will be 2.5 seconds, which is no time at all on Atmore highways.
